From 2022-2024, Thorben Ipers was Research Associate at the Chair of Strategic Management at the TUM School of Management (Technical University of Munich, Campus Heilbronn) and Doctoral Fellow of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). He wrote his dissertation on the topic "The Influence of Political Factors on International M&As and Joint Ventures" and is the winner of the inaugural emerging scholar award (Nachwuchspreis) in international management of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB).
He has worked as a Consultant for McKinsey & Company in Düsseldorf and obtained a Master of Science in Business Administration & Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, a Master of Science in Management Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration & Engineering from RWTH Aachen University.
He also spent time as a visiting researcher in the Sociotechnical Systems Research Center SSRC at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and as an intern at the Institute of Technology Management ITEM at University of St. Gallen. Furthermore, he worked as a student assistant/intern at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL, Horváth & Partners, BMW Group, and Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT.
