Overview

FIM

Educating methodologically skilled and socially competent leaders for tomorrow – both in academia and industry

The Master's Program in Finance and Information Management (FIM) offers a unique blend of quantitative and qualitative education, preparing graduates for leadership roles in today's fast-moving, hyperconnected digital economy: The four core areas - Computational Analytics, Quantitative Finance, Information Management, and Financial Management - develop financial as well as digital expertise covering technical, quantitative, and managerial aspects in both areas and offer the opportunity to delve as deeply into any of the four areas as one would in a specialized Master's degree. The emphasis on excellence in research and strong practical relevance ensures that students are not only well-versed in theory but also equipped to solve real-world challenges.

The additionally offered Certificate of Research, Leadership, and Social Responsibility provides opportunities that are offered by only a few programs worldwide: Academic and professional one-on-one guidance from a distinguished professor and an esteemed member of the FIM corporate partners that help you discover your unique path to personal success; insights into top companies in today's economy; an active network of more than 20 years of alumni in top positions in today's society; the chance to engage in a social project that allows you to give back to society and teaches modesty; as a culmination, a supervised Research Project with the possibility of publishing your results in the academic community.

The interdisciplinary approach of the FIM program, the accompanying Certificate of Research, Leadership, and Social Responsibility, and the network around the program prepare the talent of today for a leading role in academia or industry tomorrow in a highly innovative and impactful way. We welcome students with strong quantitative skills with a background in Economics, Industrial Engineering, Business & Information Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics including Financial and Business Mathematics, Statistics, or related study fields.

Program structure

What to expect from your studies

Semester 1 - 2

In the first two semesters, students build a strong foundation in key subject areas. The modules in the core areas (1st and 2nd semester) in Computational Analytics, Quantitative Finance, Information Management, and Financial Management form the backbone of the curriculum, providing essential knowledge and a multidisciplinary education that emphasizes excellence in research and practical application.

To ensure that all students, regardless of their academic background, develop the necessary skills, the mandatory Basics of FIM module introduces fundamental concepts across disciplines. Additionally, the elective module area Entrepreneurship and Sustainability offers insights into important cross-disciplinary topics, fostering a holistic approach to business and technology.

Semester 3 and beyond

From the third semester onwards, students can tailor their studies to their individual interests. Elective modules in Computational Analytics, Quantitative Finance, Information Management, and Financial Management allow for specialization in a chosen area, enabling students to deepen their expertise and align their studies with their career goals.

After completing their Core Area and specialization, students typically engage in a research project as part of the Certificate of Research, Leadership, and Social Responsibility, as well as their master’s thesis. They are intensively involved in the research activities of academic departments, gaining firsthand experience in an innovative research environment. Additionally, the research project offers students the opportunity to go abroad and collaborate with international institutions, reinforcing the program’s global outlook. Many students publish scientific papers before completing their studies by writing their final master’s thesis.
